A PUPIL from Mary Tavy and Brentor Primary School is in the running to win a national competition held by the Houses of Parliament.
Geoffrey Cox, MP for West Devon and Torridge, invited schools in his constituency to design a Christmas card to celebrate Big Ben's 150th anniversary. Mr Cox received hundreds of entries — and three from West Devon and Torridge have gone forward to the national competition to be judged at Westminster later this year.
The winner was 11-year-old Freya Chambers, who received a certificate and a prize from Mr Cox at the end of term.
Mr Cox was also able to talk to headteacher Mr Pratten to discuss the progress of the school and to present certificates to pupils who have passed their cycling proficiency tests.
He said: 'I was delighted to congratulate Freya on her excellent design and to award her the prize. It was a tribute to the level of art at the school.'
