NEW Year 7s at Tavistock College enjoyed a Freshers' Fair to find out about all the extra curricular opportunities available at the college, both at lunchtime and after school.

The hall was buzzing as Year 7s toured the stalls and met the teachers and older students, who lead and coach the activities.

They learnt about many opportunities such as drama and music; had a go at netball coached by sixth form students; found out about the science clubs and had a brush with Japanese calligraphy.

Some of the pupils signed up for horse and pony care, design technology, football and rugby.

A new club on offer which was warmly received was one teaching British sign language.

Sally Hubbard, head of Year 7, said: 'The college is aware that those who succeed and are the happiest in their new school are often those students who "get involved" and we are therefore keen for all new students to join clubs, meet new people, learn new skills and have fun.'
