TAVISTOCK archers welcomed their friends from Pontivy for four days of fun and shooting. Friday lunchtime saw them in the Trout and Tipple pub where old friends caught up on past events.

Friday evening saw club members greet the French friends at the Ordulph Arms where a friendly skittles match took place. Chairman Mike Charlesworth welcomed them to Tavistock and looked forward to an enjoyable weekend and hoped Tavistock could win back the trophy they lost by a narrow margin in 2003 in Pontivy.

On Saturday a day out had been arranged at Morwellham Quay and the guests were impressed with the area and its natural beauty and pleased to join the locals and dress in some of the period costumes. The day was made even more complete with a trip down the mine.

Sunday morning was competition day and everyone was looking forward to a decent day?s shooting. The round to be shot was a Western eight dozen arrows with four dozen at 60 yards and four dozen at 50 yards. Many members turned out to help set up the field ready to shoot. A barbecue was organised and chef John Crick assisted by many of the ladies laid on a superb meal.

At the end of the shooting Tavistock gained revenge for last year?s defeat by winning by 1,186 points ? licensee Julie from the Trout and Tipple presented the winners and the French guests with their trophies.

The weekend was rounded off with a meal at the Trout and Tipple and speeches by both chairmen, with Jean-Louis Saluden inviting Tavistock Company of Archers to visit them in 2005.

Thanks were expressed to all club members for the help over the weekend and to Shaun and Julie and their staff at the Trout and Tipple.
