IN A week when Tavistock Bowling Club won five of the six matches played, it was ladies? section player Freda Isaac who took pride of place following her performance against a Plymouth Hoe Bowling Club team in the ladies? Top Club competition.
Playing on the two-wood singles rink, Freda found herself losing 0-8 before she fought back to win the rink 18-12. The competition comprises a rink of each of the all popular bowling formats, ie, a full rink, triples rink, doubles rink, four wood singles rink and a two wood singles rink. Tavistock won four of the five disciplines thanks to Freda?s victory and wins by skip Marion Allen, who led her team of Betty Browse, Gill Saunders and Marlene Paramor to a 26-12 victory on the full rink.
Jenny Tremaine and her partners Hazel Lovell and Jean Flay notched up a 26-6 win on the triples rink and Jill Lacayo partnered by Shirley Blackburn achieved a comprehensive 27-11 victory on the pairs rink. Tavistock?s only losing rink was the four wood singles rink, where Yvonne Meneer lost 9-21.
The week began with Sunday?s mixed triples match at Kensey Vale, which resulted in a 76-69 victory for Tavistock, who won on three of the five rinks played.
Skip Betty Browse and her team of Gordon Northey and Ray Meneer won 16-10, while skip Malcolm Bloomer and his team of Wallace Northey and Marlene Paramor achieved a 18-20 victory.
Skip Ron Cooper led his team of Pat Hoar and Freda Isaac to a close 19-17, but skip Yvonne Meneer (10-15) and Norman Paramor (13-17) both lost.
Thursday saw a mixed Tavistock team travel to Plymstock and come away winning 80-69, thanks to winning three of the four rinks played. Skip Malcolm Bloomer and his squad of George Blackburn, Norman Paramor and Jenny Aldridge achieved a 24-15 victory and skip John Smith led his team of Tony Coombs, Catriona Meek and Marlene Paramor to a two-shot victory 19-17.
Skip Mike Allen and his team of Jill Lacayo, Wallace Northey and Lionel Sims took their game by the narrowest of margins when winning 21-20, only to see skip Der Saunders lose by the same margin (16-17).
Friday saw Tavistock facing opposition from Beacon Down in the Plymouth Evening League. Tavistock lost the match 61-90, losing on three of the four rinks played. The only winning rink was led by Roy Northam, who led his team of Colin Tremaine, David Perry and Lionel Sims to a 19-17 win. Skips Eric Stevens (19-29), Mile Allen (13-22) and Der Saunders (10-22) all lost.
Saturday saw a mixed Tavistock team and their supporters boarding a coach for Paignton, where the team achieved a comprehensive 116-79 victory, winning on four of the five rinks played.
Skip Roy Northam and his team of Tony Coombs, Henry Lovell and Val Southern won 22-17, while skip Rob Bowhay and his squad of Joan Northey, Tom Sharp and Shirley Blackburn achieved a comprehensive 25-10 victory.
Skip Stuart Doidge and his team of Hazel Lovell, Gordon Northey and Frank Welch achieved a narrow 22-18 win. Skip Jill Lacayo led her squad of John Timmins, Wallace Northey and George Blackburn to the biggest winning margin of the day when winning 29-13.
