ROADFORD Lake on Sunday became home to three triathlon events that attracted nearly 200 participants and a large crowd of cheering supporters.
The standard triathlon event was made up of a 1500m swim in Roadford Lake, followed by a 40km bike ride and a 10km run to the finish line, won by Heather Booth 2hrs 31mins 44secs and Pete Norris 2.09.06. The sprint triathlon comprised of a 750m swim, a 20km bike ride and a 5km run for those who were keen to push themselves to the limit more quickly, won by Joanna Star 1.17.34 and Shaun Keen 1.05.01.
Finally, the 'Scootathlon' event gave a lot of fun for children aged 4-8 years, involving a 400m scoot, a 400m bike ride and a 200m run.
The open water swims took place in the spectacular lake, the undulating bike route took in stunning views of the surrounding area and the off-road run route went around the perimeter of Roadford Lake. All entrants received a t-shirt, a goody bag and a medal for the 'Scoot-athlon' participants.
The swim was well marshalled by the Roadford Outdoor + Active team, who safeguarded the route with kayaks and motorboats.
Roadford Lake will host another open swim competition in September, the popular one mile swim for Hospiscare.
