The tournament was played on the basis of all clubs playing each other with one set for ladies' doubles, men's doubles and two different pairs of mixed doubles, winners being awarded one point for winning the set.
There were some close matches with the 'self-handicapping' system of scoring used which can be a great leveller where standards of play vary, as depicted by the many sets that went to tie-breaks.
There was a high standard of play with some entertaining matches, especially the mixed doubles.
Winners were Plymstock. Tavistock players: Annie Jefferies, Sue Parsons, Debbie Mayne, Olga Rogers, Phil Harbottle, David Martin, Rob Orton and Ray Hinton. The tournament was admirably organised by David Williams, P and D league secretary.
The club ladies' A team have been awarded the league monthly merit award for July, one outstanding match being the win over Ivybridge C.
• In a friendly match Tavistock lost 3-7 away against North Wyke (works team) last week where there was an enjoyable evening's tennis in the pleasant IGER grounds.
