OKEHAMPTON and District Tennis Club completed another busy week of fixtures with four matches being played.

On Sunday July 16 the junior under 16 boys team played Tipton St John at Simmons Park and after a long and entertaining morning of high quality tennis, watched by a large group of interested spectators, they lost by two sets to six.

Andrew Herrod Taylor and Jonathan Carter won two sets 6-4, 6-4 and lost two sets 3-6, 4-6. Scott Rose and Stuart Jarvis lost their sets 2-6, 2-6 and 1-6, 5-7.

On Monday the ladies' B team entertained Sampford Peverell's ladies' B team at Simmons Park and achieved a 2-2 draw. An effective partnership between Jackie Jarvis and Julia Moysey was rewarded with a win against the Sampford Peverell pairs. Teresa Sanderson and Beth Carter played tenaciously but were unlucky to lose their matches.

On Wednesday July 19 old rivals North Wyke visited Simmons Park to play the men's B team.

Club chairman David Carter upholding the principal of encouraging the development of the junior players of the club, fielded a team of players with a combined age less than his own!

Jason Simmons, playing his first league match of the season, partnered David Carter and they won both their matches 4-6, 7-6, 8-6 and 6-4, 6-3.

Juniors Scott Rose and Jonathan Carter playing their second match together for the club were unlucky to lose their first match 4-6, 5-7 and fought well, although tiring, to lose their second match 4-6, 2-6.

The men's A team travelled to Exeter on Friday where they lost 3-1 to Civil Service Club A team number one pair. Paul Love and Phil Povey played consistently to win their first match 6-4, 7-5, but were unable to capitalise on this losing 6-3, 4-6, 4-6 in the second match.

The absence of first team captain Graham Mitchell through injury, gave Jerry Stephens an opportunity to return to first team tennis. Andrew Carter partnered Jerry and they played well together being unfortunate to lose 4-6, 5-7 and 2-6, 1-6.
