Cullompton U16s 0

Okehampton U16s 24

Okehampton dominated possesion and territory in the first half but were let down by unforced errors. Time and again they were denied a try due to knock-ons and forward passes.

Cullompton only managed to clear their lines by kicking to touch. West caught his lineouts and back Okehampton came. Bolt drove his pack forward with drives from Turner, Bird and Cox before spinning the ball wide for Beardon, Clarke and Brookes to make ground.

Finally in the dying moments of the first half the ball went wide to Beardon who drew his man and popped the pass to Clarke on the loop for a try in the corner. Herrod-Taylor converted from the touchline.

In the second half, playing down the slope, Okehampton strung phases together and ripped the defence apart.

A charged down kick was rucked to Bolt at scrum half who put Turner through on the burst for a converted try under the posts. Cullompton were soon under pressure again with a penalty passed wide ? Stewart Down provided the overlap from full back and scored in the corner.

The back row of Sizmur, Cox and Lawrence were everywhere, stealing second phase ball and driving into the home half.

Pressure and fitness paid off again with a penalty chipped behind the defence and then turnover ball passed to the wing for Honeychurch to score.

The defence was 100% with Cullompton not attacking the centres and being hauled down on the wings. Tactics then changed with the ball kicked over the back-line, but Down and Beardon gathered it safely.

This win was based on forward domination and fitness ? a credit to coach Fred Bolt.
