PEOPLE who walk, ride, cycle or make any other active use of Dartmoor for recreational purposes are being asked to consider standing on a special forum set up as a requirement of the Countryside and Rights of Way Act. The Dartmoor Local Access Forum would also like to appoint a member who reflects the interests of the tourist industry on the moor. Appointments to the forum are for three years and although unpaid, members may claim for travel expenses and a carer?s allowance, where appropriate, for attending meetings. Four meetings are held per year, on weekday evenings, normally at the Dartmoor National Park Authority headquarters at Bovey Tracey. Additional meetings or training events may also be arranged. The present forum represents a balance of landowning interests, users of access rights and other interests specific to Dartmoor. The two vacant positions have arisen through the retirement of two members. For more information on the Local Access Forum, call Dartmoor National Park Authority on 01626 832093, e-mail localaccessforum@ dartmoor-npa.gov.uk Application forms should be submitted by January 17.
