A VITAL roadshow will be visiting Okehampton as part of an Exeter-based cancer charity's drive to highlight the support services they offer. FORCE is a self-funded cancer charity based in Exeter that works to improve the care available for cancer patients. It was founded in 1987 by a group of friends and originally was named Friends of the Oncology and Radiotherapy Centre. In the 21 years since, FORCE has raised more than £650,000 each year to help finance improvements in patient care through research, to purchase advanced equipment and to run their information and support centre which is based in the grounds of the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. Meriel Fishwick, FORCE's chief executive, said: 'A diagnosis of cancer brings about many changes in people's lives, causing distress and a variety of unfamiliar and sometimes frightening feelings. 'FORCE can help during this difficult period by offering a comprehensive range of support.' FORCE's support and information roadshow is coming to Okehampton on Tuesday February 26 and will be situated in the Waitrose car park from 10.30am until 3.30pm. FORCE cancer support and information nurse, Robert Oliver, will be on hand throughout the day to illustrate the ways that FORCE can help people with cancer.
