OKEHAMPTON Foodbank is still looking for food gifts, despite the drop in demand over recent months.
During the past four months, ten tonnes of food has been donated by individuals, organisations and companies supportive of the work the Foodbank are doing.
In February, 134 food parcels were given out for 353 people. The need has decreased but not stopped completely, with 55 parcels being given out in May, mostly to those receiving benefits who are struggling to make ends meet.
Rev Barry Walton said: 'Those who are involved in the Okehampton Foodbank would like to say a very big thank you to the people of Okehampton and the surrounding communities who have been so generous in providing the food that they have been able to distribute to those in need.
'This has been an incredible response, and we want to express our gratitude.'
Anyone who can help should take food donations to the Baptist Church on Fridays, or to OK Leisure on Fore Street. Food ideal for donation include tinned goods, potatoes, fruit, vegetables, corned beef, pasta and pasta sauce. Gifts of money, which will pay for much needed food, can be sent to Okehampton Baptist Church c/o Rev BL Walton, 18 Limehayes Road, Okehampton, EX20 1NX.
Okehampton Foodbank is there to help anyone in genuine need. Visit the Baptist church on a Friday between 10am and 12pm, or call 0800 978 8563.
