IN division one of the Okehampton and district Table Tennis League this week Okehampton A were at home to Okehampton College A. Richard Mounce did well to save the whitewash beating John Squire 11-4, 10-12, 11-2, 9-11, 7-11. Barry Vaughan and Frank Cockburn were undefeated to help Okehampton A to a 9-1 win. Bridestowe played Okehampton B and Mark Fogerty scored a fine maximum for Bridestowe but in a hard fought match Peter Richardson and Andy Moppett did well to win two singles each and Keith Smith one. The top two teams meet in the next match. Tavistock A were at home to Okehampton A. Barry Vaughan was the star for Okehampton A defeating both Fred Phillips and Peter Hicks. Vaughan also beat Roger Bowkett to complete his maximum. Tavistock won the match 7-3 to keep them nine points clear at the top of the league table. Okehampton College A were at home to Tavistock B who could only field two players. Stefano Ferrari scored his second maximum of the season and Lorraine Robinson beat Jeremy Bristow in a hard fought game 11-7, 8-11, 13-15, 6-11 and joined Stefano Ferrari in the doubles for a 5-5 draw. Alex Wren and Richard Mounce did well to beat Lorraine Robinson for a share of the points. In division two North Wyke were at home to Moretonhampstead A. North Wyke raced into a 5-2 lead. Ken Underhill made it 5-3 and in a hard fought last singles John Barford put up a good fight to defeat Steve Granger 5-11, 11-5, 9-11, 11-9, 4-11 to make the score 5-4. In the last doubles Jill Dilley and Steve Granger took on Ken Underhill and John Barford in another hard fought game with Jill and Steve wining 8-11, 7-11, 11-5, 11-8, 11-9 for a 6-4 win for North Wyke. Okehampton C were at home to Lewdown who could only field two players. Pam Hunwicke and Trevor Drew won all their games but in the last singles Maureen Venton did well to beat Pam Hunwicke in four legs. Lewdown won the doubles for a 6-4 win. Moretonhampstead won 10-0 against Okehampton College B although the college's David Amos, James Rice and Laurence Waldron were unlucky to lose some tight matches.
