IN the semi-final of the Bill Fogerty Trophy Okehampton A were at home to Bridestowe. Okehampton A table tennis team raced into a 3-0 lead then Mark Fogerty won the next against Tony Howick 20-22, 21-16, 17-21. Okehampton took the next three games to lead 6-1, Bridestowe winning the last two, Mark Fogerty beat John Squire in straight sets and in the last Francis Griffiths did well to beat Barry Vaughan 18-21, 21-19, 19-21, for a 6-3 win for Okehampton A who now meet Tavistock A in the final. This week in division two of the Okehampton and district table tennis league Okehampton C were at home to Okehampton College B. Naomi Wilkins and Stewart McCormack were on form for the College winning all their singles and the last doubles for a 7-3 win. Maureen Venton beat John Howick in the first game to put Okehampton C 1-0 up, the College won the next two games. In the next game, a hard fought five set between Gill Edwards and John Howick, John fought hard but just lost out 10-12, 11-7, 12-14, 11-8, 13-11, to level at 2-2. The College won the next three, Dick Randell won the next in straight sets. Another thriller was to come in the last singles between Maureen Venton and Stewart McCormack. Maureen fought all the way just losing out in five legs 12-14, 4-11, 11-9, 11-7, 4-11. Okehampton College were at home to North Wyke but the home side had two players for this match and the visitors raced into a 4-0 lead, Stewart McCormack doing well to win two singles. In his last last singles against Bruce Freeman he was taken to a fifth leg decider winning it 6-11, 11-7, 10-12, 11-8, 11-6. North Wyke winning the last doubles for an 8-2 win, Tom Misselbrook winning all his games for North Wyke, to put his team just six points behind league leaders Lewdown.
