THE lack of industrial units and workspace in the towns in the north of the borough was under the spotlight this week as representatives from Devon Heartlands Community Forum met West Devon Borough Council. Devon Heartlands, the group set up by the Okehampton Area MCTi Partnership to help deliver the Community Action Plan, say they are concerned at the continual erosion of employment land in the three towns of Okehampton, North Tawton and Chagford. Members of the forum meeting last week felt the issue was particularly timely given the present uncertainty of the future of the Heinz factory in Okehampton. Forum member Steve Blood said: ?We need a clear course of action. We need to know what West Devon Borough Council?s policy on providing workspace to bring businesses into the area is.?
