STAFF at Tavistock College are planning to set up an archive of the school's history, sparked by the recent discovery of some old photographs of the school from 70 and 80 years ago.

Helen Harris, teacher and local historian, is hopeful that people will be able to name some of the students and staff shown in the pictures.

Staff are also asking anyone who may have any old photographs of the college to let them make copies of them.

The plan is to set up a digital archive as well as having a set of 'hard copies' so that future generations of students can see what school life used to be like.

Principal Helen Salmon said: 'We are delighted to be setting up the Tavistock College photographic archive.

'Tavistock has a rich and varied history and over the last 100 years much of it will be captured in photographs.

'Next year marks the centenary of world war one and we hope that photographs will come from this period, but also from more recent times.'

The college would love to know if anyone can put a name to any of the faces in the photograph above, dating from 1939.
