CHRISTMAS in Devon will be the subject at the next meeting of the Okehampton Local History Society. Dr Todd Gray, who is an honorary research fellow of Exeter University and chairman of the Devonshire Association, will be the guest speaker. Dr Gray has a wealth of knowledge about the region having written many books on Devon and Cornwall. The society has enjoyed several talks by him over the last few years. The meeting will begin at 7.30pm in the Ockment Hall at the Ockment Community Centre on Wednesday, November 8. Despite its title, Murder Most Foul, the October talk was an amusing account of some Devon murder cases, given by Simon Dell who is a police historian and an entertaining speaker. He, too, has previously talked to the society on the history of the Devon and Cornwall Police Force. New members would be welcome and anyone interested should contact the secretary, Malcolm Francis-Lang on 01837 840158. Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month at 7.30pm at the Ockment Centre.
