AN itchy week is in store for the Okeford Veterinary Centre, as it highlights 'National Flea Week', from Monday, May 19 to Sunday, May 25. The week is a national event designed to remind pet owners of the importance of regular flea control in their animals. Many owners are often unaware of the flea problem that could be affecting their pet. A spokesman for Okeford said: 'We recommend regularly treating pets with a flea preparation which both kills fleas and prevents reinfestation. 'In addition to this we would advise regular vacuum cleaning and treating the environment if an infestation occurs.' Further advice about flea control is available from the practice on 01837 52138 and people are invited to call in to the centre to talk to the vets or nurses. It has been a busy time for the practice, which held a fete on April 12 to support national pet month. More than £500 was raised for the Cats Protection League and the People's Dispensary for Sick Animals. The staff at the veterinary centre would like to express their heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported the fete.
