PEOPLE in Okehampton are being invited to turn on to Fairtrade and support Fairtrade Fortnight which runs from March 1-14.

To celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight, there will be a stand outside the Okehampton Oxfam shop on Saturday mornings, March 6 and March 13.

The stall will be distributing samples, information and a fair trade quiz with a prize donated by Okehampton Quaker Meeting.

The Fairtrade mark, which ensures a fairer market price for producers in developing countries, is ten years old this year.

It started with just a few items, but now has more than 180, enough to stock your larder with coffee, tea, sugar, fruit juices, honey, cakes, biscuits and much more besides.

Mary Williams, who is organising the stall said: ?When you shop look for the Fairtrade mark. People everywhere are turning to Fairtrade ? Government departments, universities, offices, cafes, B & Bs.

?Twenty-nine towns have become ?Fairtrade towns? and a hundred more, including London, are working towards it,? she said.
