DARTMOOR Gliding Society last week made a dream come true for a young Tavistock woman. Gemma Rickwood, 24, of Cornerways Residential Home in Down Road, was one of the many visitors to the Westcountry Balloon Fiesta held in the town at the end of last month. Gemma was very interested in the gliding society?s stand at the event and her carers, Vicki Clark and Gemma Meredith, approached the society and asked if there was any possibility of arranging a glider flight for Gemma. A spokesman for the society said: ?Gemma visited Brentor Airfield and was enthralled at the flying ? Allan Holland the duty instructor offered to give her a trial lesson.? Vicki and Gemma carefully lifted Gemma into the cockpit where she was strapped into the two-seat K13 glider and made ready for take off. ?Gemma enjoyed two flights of some eight minutes each and went to a hight of 1200 feet. She landed with a big wide grin from ear to ear and described the experience as great, assuring Allan she would be back again for more high flying!? said the spokesman. ?One of Gemma?s carers, Vicki, also expressed some interest in a flight, but Gemma said she would scream too much!?
