MOTHER'S Day is just around the corner and the Hospiscare shop in Okehampton is giving people a chance to send special 'messages to mum'. Mother's Day falls on Sunday March 2 this year and Hospiscare is offering people the chance to write messages on special flower petals that will be displayed in the shop window throughout the Mother's Day weekend. Organiser of the new venture, Louise Beeken, said: 'A gift for a local charity is a great way to show you care. 'As Hospiscare spends more than 90p of every pound you give directly on patient care, you can be sure that your donation will be helping us to care for local people — families, friends and mothers.' Nicky Malins, a supporter of the scheme who has already given Hospiscare a message and donation said: 'My mum will definitely appreciate me giving a donation to Hospiscare and, as a mum, I think it would be a really thoughtful thing for children to do.' Petals are available to pick up in the Okehampton shop now, alternatively, anyone wishing to give a message and donation by phone can call 01392 688020. Hospiscare has also launched its annual photo competition with the winners appearing in its calendar which is sold throughout Devon. Hospiscare needs 11 landscape shots and one portrait orientated shot for the cover. They accept both digital and hard copies that will be returned. Helen Hutter, Hospiscare's retail manager, said: 'The calendar remains extremely popular and we completely sold out last year. 'The pictures that win are just great photos from people who love living in Devon.' Entries should include name, address and where in Devon the photograph was taken. They should be sent to Hannah Dynes, Hospiscare, Freepost (SWB31068) Exeter, EX2 5ZZ or by e-mail to [email protected]">[email protected]. The closing date is March 14.
