CHILDREN'S Hospice South West is £366 better off this week, thanks to the generosity of the parishoners of Sydenham Damerel.

The villagers, led by Sheila Royle, staged a flower festival at St Mary's Church over three days earlier this month.

Churchwarden Ian Dingle said: 'This was really a village effort and a lot of people put in a lot of time to make it a success. The coffee, teas, soup and cream teas helped raised a lot of the money and everybody involved enjoyed taking part.'

The money will go towards a new children's hospice to be built in Cornwall but a similar amount will also go to St Mary's Church itself.

Judy Pride, Plymouth and West Devon fundraiser for Children's Hospice South West, was presented with the cheque by the parishoners.
