St Column 3 Mary Tavy 10 PAUL da Roche was in fine form banging in four goals, James Philpots hit a hat trick, Ben Stephens Mary Tavy?s top goal scorer added one more to his tally of 26 so far this season. Craig Groombridge also added one as did James Easterbrook. Mary Tavy started much the brighter side, and after ten minutes broke down the stubbern Cornish side St Columb Minor with fine work down the flank by Dudley to put in a fine cross for DA Roche to smash home. Groombridge after a fine run was brought down in the box. Stephens blasted the penalty in for 2-0. Da Roche?s second was a delightful volley just inside the area 3-0, with Mark Piper missing (honeymooning in Lanzarotti) the midfield of Dent and Philpots worked very hard winning the midfield tussels. It was not long before Da Roche scored his hat trick after Stephens laid him on. Groombridge was terrifying the Saints? defence every chance he got, and was well rewarded with a fantastic strike 18 yards out. With only one change at half time (Phil Piper for Ian Hunter) Mary Tavy started much the same as the first half. Philpots after some good skill beat the Saints? keeper with a fine drive from the edge of the box. Mary Tavy dozed off and Saints? hit back 6-1. That was a shock for Mary Tavy and promptly went down the other end for Da Roche to score his 4th, 7-1. With the match in the bag Da Roche came off to be replaced by Easterbrook. Mary Tavy had another relapse and with in six minutes St Columb had pulled two back. Bad defending and Rawlings giving away a penalty. Philpots scored his second after some fine work. A Stephens free kick into the area saw Philpots head in for his hat trick. Stephens not to be outdone went on a mazey run taking on three defenders and driving the ball hard past the keeper for Easterbrook to tap in. Match ball sponsor this week was Mary Tavy Post office. Saturday at home to Gerrans, 2.30pm kick off.
