THE flaming tar barrels of Hatherleigh have been made a permanent feature of the newly design for the town's bus shelter created by young people. Some 25 young people from Hatherleigh, led by volunteer youth workers Tony Chase and Paul Coward, were awarded £475 from Devon and Cornwall Police to redecorate the shelter. Since August, they have repainted the inside and outside of the shelter and filled the roof panels with a colourful collage of flying objects. The theme depicts night and day in the town and there is a scene of the carnival. A chalk board for messages and a notice board for Hatherleigh events has been added for community use. The flaming tar barrels are depicted by a large mosaic designed and made by the young people, all aged between eleven and 19. This Saturday, November 25, at midday, mayor of Hatherleigh Cllr Gary Bush will be conducting the grand opening of the bus shelter. Everyone is invited along to have a look at the work.
