THIS cautionary tale may be of interest to your readers. A friend of some 40 years came to visit from Northampton for the Christmas holiday. I had a hair dressing appointment about a mile from my flat and she very kindly took me (I am disabled/ my disability badge being displayed in her car).?We parked in the Leg of Mutton Car Park, paying our 40p for an hour which should have been enough time. There was one other car in the car park.

However, due to pressure of Christmas appointments I was about five minutes late leaving, only to find  a parking fine attached to the car window.  A £100 or £75 if paid within seven days.

We subsequently appealed against the fine by both letter and e-mail, explaining the reason for the overstay, only to be turned down.

I hope the car park warden had a lovely Christmas enjpying the thought the he/she had ruined ours.

Cars displaying disabled badges are not charged to park in Northamptonshire and many other counties in England. I think Devon folk must enjoy the reputation of being very mean — visitors beware.
