FIVE kilometre races are usually fast and furious, and the race at Saltram Park, organised by Plymouth Coasters on a warm and humid evening, proved to be no exception.
Nine runners from Tavistock Athletic Club took part. First club member home, winning his age-group and knocking over a minute off his 2010 time, was Pete Bazley. Less than a minute behind, and second senior female, was Becky Mingo with Pete Jarman only seconds behind her, also finishing second in his male U20 group. Tony Shearer and John Windermer came third and sixth respectively in the M55 category and Mike Carpenter was second in the M60.
Hazel Walker, who always races well, finished third in her group, as did Ann Woodhouse. Laura Aspen, gaining in fitness, won her female U20 category.
TAC times as follows: Pete Bazley 20 minutes 11 seconds, Becky Mingo 21.02, Pete Jarman 21.12, Tony Shearer 21.54, Mike Carpenter 23.50, Hazel Walker 25.15, Laura Aspen 26.19, John Windermer 27.51, Ann Woodhouse 33.08.
n Plans are going ahead for the Tavy 7 road race. This year the race will have a new date and an improved start/finish.
If you would like to train for the event, improve your fitness or run for fun, the club has sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evening with a group to suit all abilities. People are very welcome to come and give it a try.
