Okehampton Columbines ladies 5

Torquay ladies 5

THE result of this hard fought and exciting game came in the last 30 seconds.

Torquay scored early on but Oke came back with the equaliser within ten minutes.

Lesley Gibson for Oke was in control at right half, feeding the ball through and leading some dangerous attacks.

Okehampton's top goal scorer Jo Moppett had an excellent game scoring all of her team's five goals.

Oke's second came with some beautiful passing from Louise Weller to Viv Weatherington to Jo Moppett, who slipped the ball in on the goalie's undefended side.

A bouncy pitch led to some awkward play at times and at half-time the home side went in 2-1 up.

At the start of the second half Torquay pressed into attack but a break by Oke gave Jo Moppett space to score her second before a well-taken short corner by Torquay led to their second goal to make it 3-2 to Oke.

An accurate and swift hit out by Nettie Collette went straight through to Jo Moppett at the half way line who sped past the sparse defence to put Okehampton 4-2 up.

Torquay rallied to pressure on the Okehampton's defence, who moved uneasily between marking space and players.

Sophie Whiteley worked hard in goal for Oke to block balls struck from every angle.  Torquay kept coming and were rewarded with a third.

Rachel Hammett for Oke moved across the field from right to left, pursuing every opportunity.  Unfortunately several of Jo's magnificent efforts were just wide of the post but Okehampton before one went in to make it 5-3.

Torquay had their share of frustrations and missed opportunities as they threw everything they had. Okehampton successfully defended several short corners before Torquay's left wing managed to score despite an ankle injury.

Okehampton tried to hang onto their lead.  Another short corner was their undoing as it cracked into the goal to put the score at 5-5 and five seconds later the final whistle blew.
