CALLINGTON Rotary Club are pleased to announce that journalist and BBC Radio Devon presenter David Fitzgerald will be MC for its 'Music for Heroes' concert taking place in Plymouth Guildhall on the afternoon of May 9, starting at 2.30pm.

Also attending will be the Lord Mayor of Plymouth, Cllr Kenneth Foster, accompanied by the mayoress. Leading members of local Rotary and Help for Heroes organisations will also be present.

'Fitz' will introduce a 60-strong band of ex-military musicians, playing as 'The South West All Stars', who will play a wide and entertaining selection of music.

The musicians involved will have travelled, at their own expense, from many parts of the UK and will be led by Lt Col John Ware RM, formerly principal director of music, Royal Marine Bands Service.

Lt Col Ware said: 'Given the obstacles the band members have overcome to be in Plymouth for the concert, their response can only be described as inspiring.

'I am sure that we will put on a fabulous concert which will be enjoyed by all.'

A large percentage of the band are combat veterans — Lt Col Ware himself served in the Falklands campaign.

All monies raised from the concert will be donated to Help for Heroes, the charity which assists servicemen and women, wounded in action, through their recovery and their return to as close to a normal life as is possible.

Roy Barraclough, president of the Rotary Club of Callington, said: 'I am proud that Rotary are associated with this wonderful event, and would like to offer my sincere thanks to all those who have so freely given their support.'

Tickets for the concert cost £12.50 and can be obtained from Maestro's Music, 51 Ebrington St, Plymouth (01752) 263069, via the web at http://www.wegottickets.com">www.wegottickets.com or via Rotarian Roy Baldock at [email protected]">[email protected], phone 01579 351042.

Tickets will also be available at the door.
