Tavistock Colts 15 Kingsbridge Colts 31 THIS was a disappointing result for Tavistock Colts because it was a game they should have won. Playing down the slope first half Tavistock kicked away possession they should have run and took a long time to get settle with players playing in new positions after some late cry offs. But once settled and realising they could beat their opposition by keeping ball in hand Tavistock moved the ball wide but Kingsbridge defended well and managed to just make the important tackle. Ewan Smith playing at fly half rush tackled his opposite number and as the ball spilled out he kicked ahead to score Tavistock's first try. Kingsbridge came back and Tavistock had to clear their line forcing the opposition to run back up the slope; after regaining possession Tavistock recycled quick ball for Jack Hodges to show his pace out on the wing to score in the corner - but again the conversion was missed. Kingsbridge kicked ahead into Tavistocks 22m and the defence were slow to react to let the visitors in for their first try. Mark Webber playing at full back received a kick and started a counter attack running towards the bottom corner after going through several hands Aaron Churchill dived for the corner to bring the half time score to 15-5. Tavistock started the second half well and went close to scoring with U16 player Ollie Larcombe- Williams playing his first game for the Colts having a great game. But after that missed chance and the loss of captain Hammy Kerswill the wheels fell off and Tavistock could not keep up with the pace of Kingsbridge and were too slow to reorganise their defence to let them in for four tries. This game highlighted Tavistocks lack of fitness but one player who never stopped running was this weeks player of the match Dale Thompson. Crediton Colts 17 Tavistock Colts 22 Tavistock Colts expected a difficult game against a side which have only lost two of their 14 league games. The visitors fielded the bare 15 after calling up the services of under 16 Erik Sprangle, who had a great game in the back row and was not fazed by the more larger and physical forwards. Tavistock took advantage of playing down the slope first half and sent the ball wide to Andrew Smerdon, who used his pace to break on the outside to score the first try; this went unconvert. Crediton started to get more organised in defence so Ewan Smith playing at fly half to Tavistock decided to chip and chase and after catching his own kick scored Tavistock's second try - again the conversion kick went wide. Crediton came back well from the restart and a lack of concentration in the midfield led to miss tackles and Crediton ran in their first try from 40 metres. Tavistock's line out started to work well with Hammy trying out some new calls and Mike Morgan stealing some opposition ball but there were some missed chances out wide with the final pass not going to hand. Crediton fly half kicked well up the slope to relieve a lot of pressure but Ewan Smith followed another chip and scored his second try. Tavistock forwards started to work well to release quick ball for the backs and after Ewan made a break Aaron Churchill finished off well with a try under the posts for Euan McCall to convert and bring the half time score to 22-5. Crediton had the slope in the second half and used the same 'chip and chase' tactic to score their first try but missed the conversion. Tavistock spent a lot of the second half defending which they did well until 10 minutes from time when they failed to guard close to a ruck on their line and the scrum half dived in to score which they converted. Tavistock started to regret those missed chances and kicks but went back on the attack and came close to scoring before the final whistle. This was a great result for the visiting Colts and man of the match Josh O'Neil deserves a mention for stepping up to the front row.
