JOGGING through the park these past few weeks I was pleased to see at long last a new fitness facility in the guise of an exercise trail.

Regrettably, on closer inspection I was disappointed that once more Tavistock has failed to quite fulfill the great potential.

While reading the self-congratulations of the council in the Times I wonder if they have actually been out and observed their work.

In my opinion there are flaws both in layout and application. First of all there appears to be too many aerobic stations when in essence the aerobic content should be achieved by the movement between stations.

Second, it would have been so much better to have a stretching zone, preferably at the start of the trail.

Third, there needs to be more information with regard to intensity, eg, suggested number of reps for beginners, improvers and advanced.

Finally, the safety matting is not adequate and is already a churned up mess.

Surely it would be better for a larger woodchip surround to the stations with a smaller pathway?

I was in discussion at the embryonic stages of the trail, along with Chris Dykes at Bodyzone but was not contacted again.

It would appear that the council just continued along its blinkered path with the result that we have an adequate facility that could have been so much better.
