Porthleven 1

Tavistock 0

THE 87-mile two-day cycle ride almost proved fruitful as for 85 minutes the Lambs held high flying Porthleven goalless, writes Eric 'Pedals' Pinch.

Tavistock welcomed back Chris Gott after injury and Steve Shaw both made the starting line up at the expense of Mark Wall and George Pitts.

The Lambs absorbed the first 15 minutes of pressure from the home side then almost sneaked the lead. Lee Cansfield made an opening down the left to centre for Dean Tongue but his header caught his own shoulder to send the ball wide of the target.

Tavistock's only other chance in the first half came in injury time as Chris Kiely's low drive was beaten out by keeper Penhaligan for John Gosling to fire back in which he held quite easily.

The Lambs had done well, against a strong wind, to hold the Fishermen to no score at half-time.

Wall came out after the interval to replace the injured Wayne Crow. The Lambs were lucky when Shaw's miss-kick let in Miller on goal and Darren Babb put the striker under pressure to prevent him beating Andy Meeds with a low drive.

In the final 15 minutes the Lambs' passing went astray and on a couple of occasions a pass as opposed to a shot could have given them a goal.

With five minutes remaining all the previous hard work was undone when Lee Hodge was allowed to get to the by-line to square the ball back for Miller to shoot home.

Tavistock did not lie down and forced a couple of corners right at the end — from the final chance of the game Wall shot just over.
