TAVISTOCK Men?s First XI had deservedly played their way to the semi-final of the Devon Cup; to be drawn against the newly promoted Local National League of Marjon?s of Plymouth. Tavistock knew this to be their last and biggest game of the season and seemed to rise to the occasion. The first half saw an open game from both sides, with keen defending by Brown, Manley, Edwards and Lethbridge fending off some good movement by the young, fit and hungry Plymouth side. Halves, Wilson and Honey Snr maintained structure throughout feeding Honey Jnr and Lovett ?up front? who worked hard putting pressure on the Plymouth backs ensuring no easy route out. Bradley, keeping goal, executing fine saves throughout the game and tireless mid field play by Way and Barratt keeping the first half score to a deficit of 2-0. With the start of the second half Tavistock held well, the substitute of Nicholls winning the first penalty corner for Tavistock showed intent, a well taken drag flick from Honey Jnr just sailing over the bar. With ten minutes to go at 4-nil down Tavistock felt they had performed well but a combination of tired legs (Tavistock) and well drilled team work (Plymouth) saw the end result of 8-0 to Plymouth reflect what it needs to get to National league status. Tavistock Men?s First XI take a well deserved break to Dublin this weekend with their end of season tour and look forward to Summer league hockey.
