Plymouth University . . . . . . . . . . . . . 0
Okehampton Argyle . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1
OKEHAMPTON notched their first win of the year with a goal midway through the first half. It was a well-deserved victory for a team that was full of walking wounded. For the second game running Argyle could only field the bare eleven but that eleven did more than enough to beat the Students.
Okehampton played the better of the football keeping the students pinned back in their half for long periods. The pressure finally told when a half-cleared corner fell to Hayley Vincent whose twenty-yard shot gave the keeper no chance at all. Just before half time Plymouth had the chance to equalise from the penalty spot after a foul by Sami Burdus, but Gina Burdus was equal to the shot.
The second half was much the same as the first with the students pegged back in their own half for a majority of the time; Argyle had chances to extend the lead but failed to take them. What was encouraging was the way that the players defended from the front to the back, with every player doing all that they could despite injuries of illness.
The team is slowly starting to add players to its squad but is desperately in need of women wanting to play football. If you feel that you would like to play then come along to the all weather pitch at the college at 7.00pm
Thursday nights and join in the training sessions.
Exeter University . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .1
Okehampton Ladies . . . . . . . . . . . . . .1
THIS was another good result against a fairly useful University side. The Ladies had the better of the game and midway through the first half took a deserved lead when a ball was passed through for Jessica Burdus to out pace the defence and score. Shortly before half time the students equalised from the penalty spot after a foul by the goalkeeper.
The second half was deadlocked with both sides striding for the winning goal.
Okehampton had a couple of chances but it was Exeter University who came closest to getting the all important goal when they hit the post with only five minutes to go.
This was a good performance by all of the players involved and with the younger players now starting to come through the team hopes it can now start to move forward.
This Sunday they are at home to Rolle Rockets. Players are to meet at the clubhouse at 1.30pm.
