WEST Devon's new gig club holds its first event this Saturday on The River Tamar.
The Tavy and Tamar Gig Club, which only formed in July, is hosting a fun afternoon with rowing and a barbecue at their new base at Weir Quay Sailing Club.
The club has already been successful with a £5,000 grant from Awards for All towards the building of their own traditional Cornish pilot gig, currently under construction near Lifton.
This weekend they have been loaned some boats from Calstock Rowing Club and the fun starts at 3pm. Anyone interested in joining the club can come along on the day and have a go at rowing or can contact the club chairman Bob Turner on Tavistock 841464.
