THE top four primary teams from Tavistock and Okehampton came together for the West Devon Primary School netball and football finals. The day, organised by the Tavistock and Okehampton School sports co-ordinators, saw 140 children to enjoy the games.

Organisers said not only was the event blessed with beautiful weather but there was also a high standard of play being produced by all teams.

In the netball Meavy, St Andrews, Whitchurch and Milton Abbot were representing the Tavistock area and Northlew, North Tawton, South Tawton and Exbourne the Okehampton schools.

After some competitive matches Meavy were to play Whitchurch in the semi- finals along with St Andrews and South Tawton. Meavy beat Whitchurch in a close match 5-4, then St Andrews beat South Tawton 4-3.

The final between Meavy and St Andrews was hard fought with each team  working extremely hard to get ahead. At half time Meavy lead 3 -2 but in the second half St Andrews produced its best performance of the tournament clinching the win 5-3. St Andrews now go forward to Devon County final.

In the football the top eight teams were North Tawton, Okehampton, South Tawton, Chagford, Bridestowe, Horrabridge, Bickleigh and Milton Abbot. After hard fought group games the semi finalists were North Tawton v Chagford and Bickleigh v Okehampton.

Both games ended in a draw and it was down to nail biting penalty kicks. Okehampton and Chagford emerged to meet in the final where a stylish Chagford won the trophy with a 4-1 win.
