STUDENTS attending an Intensive Outdoor Skills Course at the Adventure Centre, Kelly College, undertook a 'First Aid in the Outdoors' course recently.
They learned how to deal with casualties in a variety of different situations, how to monitor them and how to prevent the situation from worsening. They dealt with simulated incidents, including casualties going into cardiac arrest, choking and how to deal with first aid issues that can arise in rural, remote locations.
Clare Short, the first aid trainer, said: 'It was refreshing to see young people equipping themselves with the necessary skills to go into the outdoor industry.'
All the candidates passed the first aid course and continue for a further 12 weeks until they finish their training to become outdoor instructors.
The Adventure Centre is fast becoming the National Training Centre for Outdoor Instructors with a 100% success rate of students gaining employment.
