FIREFIGHTERS from Tavistock are celebrating victory in a competition that could see them competing nationally in the future.
The crew of Phil Griffiths, Jim Sherrell, Doug Cruze and Gavin Marathalingam managed an incredible 28.1 seconds to win a pump competition held on Plymouth Hoe last weekend.
Jim Sherrell said: 'I think the closest to us was 33 seconds. It was relatively new to us, so we didn't expect to win it in the slightest — we were quite chuffed!'
Jim said rumour had it their time was only just outside the national record, so they could be competing further afield in future.
'There are competitions going on all over the country, so it could happen,' he said.
