A HORSE was rescued from a ditch at Boasley Cross near Bratton Clovelly by firefighters using strops and a winch. The difficult rescue took several hours after the incident was first reported shortly after 10.15am on Monday. Two appliances from Okehampton attended the scene and once brought to the surface, the horse was treated by a vet at the scene. l A TRACTOR towing a trailer carrying four tons of straw caught fire prompting a major firefighting operation for crews from Hatherleigh and Okehampton. Crews used six breathing apparatus, two hose reels and one main jet with water supplied from a nearby hydrant to put out the blaze, which also caused damage to 30 metres of hedgerow. The fire broke out just before 6.45pm on Sunday as the tractor was travelling along Bridge Street, in Hatherleigh.
