TAVISTOCK fire crews are warning people to take more care when cooking, following a kitchen fire last week.
Firefighters were called to the home of an elderly woman last Tuesday evening where they found the cause of the fire to be a microwave which had been left on too long.
The 90-year-old had fallen asleep, leaving food cooking in the appliance which subsequently caught fire.
Fire crews treated the woman with oxygen therapy and said she was in a stable condition but suffering from smoke inhalation. She was taken by ambulance to Derriford Hospital.
Tavistock fire chief Tim Smith said: ?Cooking-related blazes are the second biggest cause of fire in the country ? and they can be extremely serious.
?I?d like to take this opportunity to remind people they must be careful when cooking ? never leave food to cook unattended.?
