TAVISTOCK's fire chief this week issued a warning to householders in the area, in advance of Guy Fawkes celebrations taking place during the next few days.
Tim Smith said the fire service had been alerted to several incidents in which gas cylinders had been hidden underneath bonfires built in readiness for Bonfire Night parties.
Mr Smith said: 'Please check your bonfires to make sure that they have not been tampered with — these incidents have mainly happened in Plymouth but people should still be aware that some people can behave in this irresponsible manner.'
Healso stressed how dangerous fireworks could be and said where at all possible, residents should attend organised events which have been properly planned.
