A GOOD-sized crowd turned out at Langsford Park for the Andy Meeds Testimonial, to honour a goalkeeper for the club playing in excess of 700 games.
Peter Reid presented Andy with a commemorative plaque before the game, and took the opportunity to look at several trialists included in the strong Argyle line-up.
The trialists include Lithuanian striker Nikolaj Misiuk, Wigan midfielder Joe Holt, French striker Joseph Mendes and former Manchester United Academy Colin Watson.
The game was a very fine contest with both teams playing attractive end to end football.
The Lambs were giving as good as they got during the opening period and there was little to choose between the two teams until the 20 minute point, when Mendes, who played for Grenoble last season, gave Argyle the lead when he lost his marker, to head home from Jordan Copp's corner kick.
The Lambs should have had a penalty four minutes later when Ryan Fice was pulled back as he was about to shoot, but the referee turned down the appeals.
Some fine defending by Jamie Ahearn prevented Argyle increasing their lead when he headed off the line, after young striker Jared Sims had rounded Andy Meeds and looked certain to score.
A minute before half time Argyle took a two goal lead, when a long range shot from Watson which Meeds had covered, took a wicked deflection off a Lambs defender, diverting the ball into the other corner of the net.
The Lambs pulled a goal back on 55 minutes when Dave Hallett produce a great pass to Levi Landricombe, who drew Roman Larrieu off his line, before he slipped the ball to Kojo Ofori to net.
Argyle's superior fitness was beginning to show in the later stages and they restored a two goal lead in the 75th minute, when Ben Clarvis sent in a beautiful cross, which took a deflection off the unfortunate Lambs defender Jon Wyatt and nestled in the net.
This was a good performance by the Lambs, and they are improving with each game, keeping possession of the ball much better, and building constructive moves from mid field.
This is good news with their opening league fixture at Falmouth coming up on Saturday August 13, when they visit Falmouth.
