AN open meeting enabling people to find out more about the valuable work of Samaritans in the Okehampton area is being held in Exeter next week.

The Mid Devon branch of Samaritan volunteers is comprised of people from all walks of life who give their time to listen, in confidence and without prejudice, to anyone experiencing feelings of distress or despair.

A spokesman for Samaritans said: ?We live in stressful times. Without someone to talk to it is easy for stress and anxiety to build up, until they seem impossible to deal with.

?Samaritan values are based on the belief that being listened to, in an accepting and safe environment, can alleviate despair and possible suicidal feelings.?

Anyone with a little time to spare who thinks that, with

training, they could become a good listener, is welcome to attend the open evening at Wat Tyler House, King William Street, Exeter, at 7.30pm.

Alternatively, contact the branch on 01392 411 711.
