THE 2006 Finals and Presentation of the Moorland Ladies Summer Shield was held at the Devon Tors, Yelverton on August 29, bringing its season to a close. The evening began with the first round of the Captain?s Shield being played. Last year?s title holder, Sue Cork (Devon Tors Ladies) defeated Nadine Newman (Buccaneer ?C?); Molly Bickell (Royal British Legion) defeated Sue Freeman (Cornish Inn); Gill Edge-Downing (Prince of Wales) defeated Amanda Fone (Buccaneer ?A?). The semi-finals saw Sue narrowly defeated by Deborah Frise (Buccaneer ?B?) and Molly went out to Gill Edge-Downing, who went on to beat Deborah in the final, and secure the title. The finals of the Doubles competition saw Avril Hunter and Anna Johnson (Royal British Legion) matched against Sarah Stephens and Vicky Gale (Buccaneer ?A?). Avril and Anna emerged triumphant leaving Sarah and Vicky being the runners-up. In the Singles competition, semi-finalists Sue Freeman (Cornish Inn) was defeated by Caroline Hammond (Devon Tors Ladies), and Sarah Stephens (Buccaneer ?A?) secured her place in the final against Jenny Mellows (Buccaneer ?B?). The final of the Singles between Caroline and Sarah saw some excellent darts played, but Caroline emerged the victor over Sarah. The presentation of awards was made by Pete Gibson, landlord of the Devon Tors, and Sue Cork. The evening ended with a buffet provided by The Devon Tors.
