YELVERTON Village Park celebrated the addition of yet more play equipment as the final phase of development was completed ahead of plan.
The final phase — for which around £15,000 was raised — was officially opened by Lord Morley last Friday and included a new climbing wall and a twisting scramble net.
The park has also had play panels fitted next to the path so that less able children can play friends at pinball and have fun with a funky mirror and musical chimes. A new circular bench was built at Dartmoor Prison and sponsored by Yelvercare.
A spokesman for the charity said the early completion had been largely due to the generous donation of Brian and Anne Medhurst, along with grants from the RDA, West Devon Borough Council, Dartmoor Prison, the Devon Playing Fields Association, the Bawden Trust and Amory Trust.
Commercial sponsors included Unilever, Barclays and Lloyds TSB banks.
'The whole park is a tribute to the generous local community spirit,' she said. The park is maintained by volunteers, with the Guides picking up litter.
No further equipment is planned, but work parties and fund-raising will continue to maintain and insure the park and replace equipment.
The committee thanked its supporters and expressed a hope that all users of the park would continue to care for it and get involved in fund-raising — such as the forthcoming quiz on March 16. Tickets for the charity's lottery are available at £12 for 12 months, with more details available on 01822 855455.
