Tavistock Ladies 1st XI 2 Exmouth 2nd XI 2 THIS was the semi-final of the Devon Cup and Tavistock were playing a team three divisions higher than themselves. The strong play of Laura Stapleton, Fiona Dunn and Susannah Boulle kept the opposition out of the ?D? and with Robynne Honey standing in as the goalkeeper, she endeavoured to make sure Tavistock always had players marked up who were looking a threat. Tavistock were awarded a short corner and an excellent ball out from Armstrong allowed Stapleton to hit it strongly past the keeper. This lifted the team?s spirits and the opposition knew they were under pressure. They battled hard and a good strike from them equalised the score. Judy Miller hung in the ?D? and was able to keep the opposition occupied enough in order to break up their defences. Sarah Barratt drove the ball up the pitch and passed an excellent ball to Armstrong who was waiting on the post and neatly put it into the goal. The score at half-time was 2-1 with Tavistock appearing to be the dominant team. The second-half of the match saw Tavistock lose some of their structure and were put under more pressure in the ?D?. Unfortunately a short corner was awarded against Tavistock which Exmouth scored from as the post on the left was not marked tightly enough. Tavistock did have some more shots at goal but the power was just lacking and so the final score was 2-2. With it being a cup match this meant penalty flicks. Robynne Honey played superbly in goal and despite not saving them she did manage to get a touch on every one. Also the Tavistock flicks were not scored against the opposition. The final outcome was Tavistock narrowly missing out on getting through to the final due to flicks. Player of the match: Robynne Honey, who has been selected for West of England Trials. Tavistock Ladies 1st XI 12 Launceston 0 TAVISTOCK was the dominant team looking to take strong possession of the ball. Robynne Honey was playing well on the wing and Laura Armstrong and Sarah Barratt worked well together in order to push the ball into the opposition?s ?D?. It was Sue Gawman who scored the opening goal. From there the Tavistock team never looked back. In the first half eight goals were scored by Gawman, Armstrong, Boulle Miller and Butler. The second-half saw Tavistock bunching slightly at times and not switching the ball enough from one side of the pitch to the other. However, this was soon rectified and Tavistock looked the dominant team with all the players tackling well and making some good calls and early passes. Goals in this half were scored by Barratt, Miller Armstrong and Butler. The final score was a healthy 12-0 which the team needed to remind them of how to score goals. Player of the match: Emma White.
