IT IS with regret and no small degree of sadness that, after nine years trading in the town, Tony and I have decided to close the Tavistock branch of Maestro's (Mainly Music), this Saturday, July 15.

During the past two years, there has been a steady decline in trade with far fewer visitors in the town. With continual increases in overheads our Plymouth shop cannot continue to subsidise this one.

I have made many friends during the time I have been here, and would like to thank all those who have supported me, particularly during the past year, when things have been rather more difficult with family health problems.

I would especially like to thank Mrs Christine Everitt and her family whose nomination won me the coveted government Consumers First award for customer service, an award which no other music shop in the country has ever won before.

There are so many other people to thank, I wish I had the space, but I must mention the three schools who have supported us, Mount House, Whitchurch and Tavistock County Primary schools. Special thanks also go to Ernie Willsher, William Clough and Phil Perkins.

I am now looking forward to having more time to spend on my jazz singing, together with supporting Tony in Plymouth and at the new Charles Cross Music School.
