Fans of the comedy police drama Beyond Paradise will be delighted that filming has begun on series five of the spin-off series of Death In Paradise.
But for some people in Tavistock, this is tempered with annoyance that the film crew and cast have taken over a Tavistock car park for a week.
Shoppers have been complaining that the Riverside car park in Tavistock has been closed to all but a fleet of film crew accommodation trailers and cast/extras cars. One of the filming locations is Yelverton old airfield where a temporary standing stone circle was recreated this week.
Traders say shoppers were particularly annoyed that the car park was closed on Saturday, the busiest shopping day of the week. This feeling is aggravated by coming immediately after the Bedford car park closure due to the Goose Fair fun fair and after the day’s closure of all town centre car parks and other parking restrictions due to the street fair itself.
A notice on a lamppost says the car park, high above the River Tavy, is closed from Friday, October 16, and will not reopen until the morning of Thursday, October 22.
One trader said: “I had lots of shoppers coming in on Saturday complaining that Riverside car park was closed. It’s come after the closure last week of the Bedford car park in town due to the Goose Fair fun fair. So, its a matter of bad timing really. Too many closures all at once.”
Meanwhile, many of the familiar stars of the mythical Shipton Abbott town, filmed in Looe, are back on the beat. Kris Marshall will return as DI Humphrey Goodman and he is expected to be joined by Sally Bretton as Martha, Zahra Ahmadi as Esther Williams, Dylan Llewellyn as PC Kelby Hartford, Felicity Montagu as Margo Martins and Barbara Flynn as Anne Lloyd.
Previous series have filmed by production company Red Planet on location in Tavistock and across West Devon and South and East Cornwall. The latest series is expected to air on BBC One next year.
