The Downs 7

Mount House 1st XV 22

PLAYING with the wind in the first half, the threequarters ran most of the ball they received.

Tom Painter and George Day-Robinson (2) scored tries following prolonged passages of play in which the half backs and forwards made space wide for the tries to be scored.

A searing break from deep in his own 22 by fly half Rory Oxenham produced a second try for Tom Painter, before the Downs scored.

More solid defence, in which Harry Cousens, Tom Lawson and Richard Dawson were outstanding, was required to subdue the home side before time ran out with Mount House recording their fifth win of the season.

Mount House 2nd XV 52

THIS was a pleasing win for a group of talented players who are developing into a decent team.

While mistakes were made, there were many positive aspects. Philip Downie, making his debut at fly half, allowed the centres to play to their full potential and both wingers saw plenty of the ball.

Try-scorers were Stuart Hoddinott (2), Nick Dashfield, Sam Morgan, Mark Cuckson, Isaac Jay, Sam Goldstone and Stuart Harris. Oliver Muers-Raby?s confident kicking added six conversions.

MOUNT House Colts found themselves up against a large, strong Downs side with powerful runners on the flanks and at full back. Overwhelmed in the first half, Mount House found themselves 0-19 down at half-time.

A greater degree of organisation and an increased physical involvement saw a more even contest in the second half, allowing the home side to register a good try by prop Arthur Fulford. Robert Pryde added the conversion.

A DEGREE of confusion marked the early stages of this match, but once things settled two talented sides fought out a worthy draw. There was little to choose between the teams and the lack of a winner at no side was a satisfactory outcome. Try-scorers for Mount House were Tom Canning, Conor Duncan and Harry Heal.

Mount House B O9s 20

Tavistock B U9s 15

BOTH sides produced enterprising rugby and a close match ended in a narrow but deserved victory for Mount House.

Two tries in three minutes put Mount House 10-0 up.

Tavistock replied with three tries to take the lead, only for Mount House to come back again with two late scores to clinch the game.

There were notable performances from many players; Fiona McCall, captain for the day, Felix Davies and Daniel Sargeant all showed good tackling and defensive skills. Robert Grove had opportunities to show his pace and promise in the backs, Jamie Gibbins disrupted numerous Mount House attacks to claim the ball for Tavistock. Rhys Davies, in addition to scoring two of Tavistock?s tries, showed maturity in involving less experienced players and organising set-piece positions.
