THE second round of the South West of England Winter Foursomes competition, sponsored by City Plumbing, Plymouth Tool Hire, Vickery Holman and Foojoy, was played at Yelverton.

The reigning champions, George Frude and Chris Gunn had a walk-over, after their opponents had to withdraw. Several professionals were knocked out — Iain Parker (RND) and partner Jimmy Mullen lost to a young pair, Jack Money (Exeter) and Ben Isaac (Libbaton), on the 18th.

Kayleigh Cann (Plymouth Range) and Bengt Bergan (Elfordleigh) lost to two of Yelverton's Palairet team, Paul Hendy and Mark Blaber 5 and 4.

Sean Mason and partner James Brophy (Teign Valley) lost to Chris Gill and his partner Ryan Pope (Exeter) 4 and 3. Martin Ruth (Torquay) and partner Alan Montier (Dainton Park) lost to two of Yelverton's successful junior team, Dan Rosevear and James Smith 2 and 1.

Successful pros included Ashley Moon (Elfordleigh), Ian Marshall (Plymouth Range), Tracey Loveys (Bigbury), Jason Pollard (Stover), Scott Amiett (Teign Valley), Wayne Basford (Launceston), and Dan Wood (Holsworthy). Wood and his partner Stewart Smith had a surprise victory over two-times past champion Adam Bridgewater and his partner Leon Fricker, both playing off plus one, by a margin of 4 and 3.

The next round, will be played on Sunday, November 29. There are still three other ladies still in the competition: Jo Hicks-Beach (Stover), Nicky Gawman (Tavistock) and Susie Hicks-Beach (Stover), all playing for the prize of last lady competitor.
