Lewdown v Kingskerswell

LEWDOWN travelled to the outskirts of Torquay for this top of the table clash at Kingskerswell.

After losing the toss and being asked to bat on a variable and difficult track Lewdown?s batsmen applied themselves well under the conditions and reached 167-8 after the allotted 46 overs.

Tony Geering top scored with a fine 35no. Other good contributions came from Charlie Hughes (26), Keith Everard (21) and Jon Varcoe (20).

In replay, Kerswell found Lewdown?s opening bowlers in good form with Angus Murray and Charlie Hughes taking two wickets apiece, restricting the opposition to 39-4 off 16 overs.

With Mark Jordan, Adi Clements and Jon Varcoe taking four wickets between them, Kerswell were in trouble at 86-8 with 16 overs still to bowl, however, Kerswell?s 9 and 10 stubbornly resisted everything bowled to them and batted out for the losing draw, finishing on 40-8.

Lewdown?s fielding excelled with all players lively and eager for the entire innings, Jack Skuse and Adi Clements putting in fine fielding displays.

Lewdown v Roborough

HOT weather and a good wicket contributed to a high scoring game at Lewdown?s Recreation Field.

Lewdown were asked to bat after losing the toss for the fifth time in six games and racked up 275-8. Aussie Jon Varcoe (83) and Greg Sleep (85) made run-scoring look easy as they shared a partnership of 159 in 25 overs for the third wicket, Adi Clements (39) and Charlie Hughes (20) also making good contributions towards the end of the innings.

Roborough found the going good as their openers put on 116 before Olly Brown took a superb diving one-handed catch on the boundary to remove Goodchild (62).

This catch was a rare sight as Lewdown?s fielders, much to the disbelief of their bowlers, put down chance after chance to enable Roborough to reach 121-4, without really threatening Lewdown?s total, after their 46 overs, Adi Clements taking 2-27.

Yet another winning draw keeps Lewdown top but with several teams having a game in hand they need to start turning draws into wins.

This Saturday away to Ivybridge.
