Whitchurch Wayfarers U15 v Ivybridge CC U15

THE Colts were put in to bat on an astro-wicket and the opening partnership of Frost and Newton got off to a good start with Frost making a useful 20.

Skipper Daymond made a good 18 and Scott made a decent 10. Probert made a whirlwind 38no with some sublime strokes. Good support from Webb, 13, and Smith, 3no, helped Whitchurch make 130-5.

Ivybridge made the most of poor bowling by Whitchurch, but there were exceptions with Daymond (1-12) leading by example and putting pressure on the Ivybridge batting order. Thomas took 3-25 including a marvellous catch by Frost.

It was a tight finale with Ivybridge needing 10 off the last over, but phenomenal fielding from Churchill saved Whitchurch and won them the match by 7 runs.

FROST and Newton opened for Whitchurch. They got off to a flying start and saw off the opening bowlers with Frost being dismissed for 17. Newton and Daymond quickly followed into the clubhouse and things looked bad for Whitchurch before Probert, 24, Willets,18, and Thomas, 18no restored the Whitchurch innings and put it on its way to 123 for 7.

Kingsbridge set out in a blaze of fire and quickly made 41 off 5 overs. The situation seemed disastrous halfway through the 20 overs and Whitchurch seemed on their way to their first loss of the season. However, Newton was brought on and bowled tidily.

A second spell from Scott ran hot through Kingsbridge and this backed up from the other end by Thomas helped them take 3-17 and 1-21 respectively. Probert saved the match for Whitchurch and took 2-4 keeping Kingsbridge Cricket Club down to 106-7.

Whitchurch won by 18 runs.
